NOON HOLY WEEK SERVICES will begin Monday at Grandin Court Baptist Church, 2660 Brambleton Ave. S.W. The Rev. M. Douglas Newman, will preach during the first service. On Tuesday, the Rev. Janet Ramsey will preach, and on Wednesday, the Rev. Robert M. Hamner will preach. These services will be in the chapel and are followed by lunch in the fellowship hall.
\ RALEIGH COURT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1837 Grandin Road S.W., will include Tenebrae, a service of darkness, on Good Friday, April 1, among its Holy Week observances. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The church also is cooperating with several others on Grandin Road in a noon service on Good Friday at Westhampton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.) This service, at which the Rev. James Drinard Smith of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal will speak, is followed by lunch.
\ CATHERINE GATCHEL, a sophomore at Roanoke College whose home is in Galax, has joined the staff of Westhampton Christian Church as the part-time youth director.
\ PALM SUNDAY ACTIVITIES at Westhampton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will include worship at 8:30 and 11 a.m. A children's processional with palms and special music by the Chancel Choir will be followed by a salad and potato luncheon to benefit a youth project.
\ ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, Elm Avenue at South Jefferson in downtown Roanoke, will have an Agape Supper on Maundy Thursday, March 31, starting at 6 p.m. in the church garden. Participants are asked to bring bread, fruit or cheese for a re-enactment of Jesus' meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. At 7:30 p.m., members will take Communion and prepare the altar for Good Friday.
\ BARBARA NORRIS DUERK, a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church recently received a God and Service Award for her leadership in Girl Scouting. The award is a national recognition for adults working in ministry to youth. Duerk was cited on Girl Scout Sunday for her leadership to the church youth fellowship, as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout coordinator, member of the church board and director of several Scout events.
\ The REV. LARRY JAFFREY, representing Chosen People Ministries, an international program aimed at converting Jews to Christianity, will speak April 10 at Ghent Grace Brethren Church, 1511 Maiden Lane S.W. He will speak at the 6 p.m. service on "Messiah in the Passover."
