\ AN EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE, sponsored by the Salem Ministers' Conference, will be held April 3 at 7 at Sherwood Memorial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike. The\ Rev. Dr. W. Melvin Maxey of St. Paul's Episcopal Church will preach. Music will be by the choir of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
The service will be held at Salem Wesleyan Church if the weather is bad.
\ FAITH ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH, 125 W. Fourth St., Salem, will hold an Easter sunrise service April 3 at 6:30. Prayer, singing and Communion will be included and followed by breakfast in the fellowship hall.
\ A NEW PIPE ORGAN is scheduled to be played for the first time Easter Sunday, April 3, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in downtown Salem. The tracker-type organ, given anonymously, has cost about $285,000, including renovations to the worship area. A dedicatory recital is scheduled in May.
\ FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in downtown Salem begins its observance of Holy Week with a family dinner and Lenten study Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. The final Wednesday morning Lenten study is from 10:15 to 11:30.
Maundy Thursday, March 31, and Good Friday, April 1, services will begin at 7:30 p.m.
On April 3, Easter worship is scheduled at 8:45 and 11 a.m.
\ FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST), 712 Front Ave., Salem, will have a simulated Jewish ritual meal on Maundy Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to bring food for a potluck meal before a service of darkness ritual.
Good Friday worship in darkness on April 1 will begin at 7:30. On Easter, an indoor sunrise service will begin the day at 7 followed by Sunday school at 10 and worship at 11.
