ROANOKE COLLEGE GROUP SPONSORS RUN FOR CHARITY

A 50-mile run for charity, sponsored by the Kappa Alpha fraternity at Roanoke College, will be held Saturday

The 2 a.m. run will begin at Kappa Alpha's fraternity headquarters at Washington & Lee University in Lexington and will end at the Roanoke College lacrosse field at 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Baptist Children's Home in Salem and help defer medical costs for a University of North Carolina at Greensboro student and Kappa Alpha member who was struck by a drunk driver last year.

Club schedules soccer skills sessions, games

The Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club will hold "Stars Saturday" soccer sessions for boys and girls ages 7-9 on Saturdays from April 9 through May 7 at the Roanoke Parks and Recreation field, 210 Reserve Ave.

Game times are at 9, 9:45, 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. Players should arrive 30 minutes before scheduled game times to participate in skill sessions led by club players from the Under-16 and Under-19 teams.

Adult coach supervision will also be provided.

The cost for the program is $15.

A make-up date has been set for May 14.

Pro soccer game set for April 9 in Roanoke

The United States Interregional Soccer League national champion Greensboro Dynamo's will meet the Richmond Kickers April 9 in the first professional soccer game held in Roanoke.

The game will be played at 7 p.m. at the Cave Spring Junior High School stadium on Virginia 221. Tickets, which cost $4, are available at Soccer Stop, Play It Again Sports, CMT Sporting Goods Co. or the Roanoke Valley Soccer Club.

The game is being sponsored by the soccer club, WDBJ-7 television and WSLQ-FM and WSLC-AM radio.

10K Walk for the Cure to be held May 15

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation will hold its sixth annual 10K Walk for the Cure on May 15.

The walk starts from Roanoke's Market Square at 1 p.m. Entertainment begins at noon, and registration for the walk is at 12:30 p.m.
