PRO SOCCER COMES TO ROANOKE FOR VINYARD FUND-RAISING EFFORT

Professional soccer comes to the Roanoke Valley on April 9, when the Greensboro Dynamo takes on the Richmond Kickers in an exhibition game at Cave Spring Junior High School.

The 7 p.m. game kicks off the Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club's fund-raising effort to build a soccer complex at Vinyard Park. Tickets are $4, and all proceeds will go toward the club's goal of $400,000 to construct fields for its 23 teams and 400 players.

"Once completed, the complex at Vinyard Park will be one of the largest soccer facilities in Virginia and will provide expanded practice, playing and tournament facilities for our club, as well as other area soccer organizations," says Danny Beamer, executive director of the Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club.

The Greensboro Dynamo won the U.S. Interregional Soccer League championship in 1993, its first year in the league. The Richmond Kickers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Tickets can be purchased at Soccer Stop, Play It Again Sports and CMT or from the Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club. For more information, call Beamer at 772-3871 or Clint Morse at 983-7688.
