Promoter Whitey Taylor has scheduled 32 race dates through the end of October. FCS will feature competition in six divisions: late model, street stock, pure stock, mini stock, rookie and any car. More than 200 drivers raced at FCS in 1993.
Dudley Lawhorn, the 1993 late model champion, heads the list of returning drivers, but the field in many of the divisions will be filled with fresh faces.
"We're expecting about 12 new late model drivers," said Taylor, who will be operating the Callaway track for the 16th year.
FCS has joined the American Motorsports Benevolent Association this season.
"AMBA is a national points fund for the drivers," Taylor said. "Among weekly short tracks, it's a very big organization. More than 200 tracks around the country belong."
Taylor has several special events planned this season, including Winston Cup crew chief races in April and September.
Appearances by some prominent NASCAR drivers will be announced soon, as will two dates featuring the Legends Cars, a collection of miniature antique modifieds that are modeled after those driven by the sport's stars during NASCAR's formative years.
Taylor has expanded the FCS late model races to 100 laps this season, with four 200-lappers scheduled around the summer holidays. Races in the other classes will remain 25 laps.
FCS has made some changes to its facility. New fencing surrounds the track, and all of the concession stands have been remodeled.
Admission to FCS will remain $5, with no charge for children 10 and younger. Through the first few weeks, the opening race will begin at 6 p.m.
