TRUCKER WINS SUIT IN ELEVATOR ACCIDENT

A truck driver injured more than four years ago in an elevator accident has won $500,000 in damages in Wythe County Circuit Court.

James Lonnie Harrison, who worked for Overnite Transportation Co. of Max Meadows, had filed the suit against Jafree Shirt Co. of Wytheville.

Harrison had delivered a load of cloth goods to the company plant in downtown Wytheville, and was counting the bundles on a second-floor elevator when it fell.

Although he had neck pains afterward, he said, he did not think he was seriously injured and went back to work. The next day, the pain had become so intense that Harrison sought treatment at an emergency room.
