RETAIL GAS PRICES RISE; TREND SHOULD CONTINUE

Retail gas prices continued to creep upward, climbing about a half-cent nationwide over the last two weeks, an industry analyst said Sunday.

The increase was due to rising wholesale prices for crude oil, which rose 1 cent in the same period, according to Trilby Lundberg.

"By that measure, there's about another half-penny [increase] waiting in the wings," Lundberg said.

The average price for a gallon of gasoline was 110.3 cents, according to the biweekly Lundberg Survey of service stations nationwide. The survey was taken Friday.

The increase erased a quarter-cent dip two weeks ago, but prices have been on a general upward trend since January, Lundberg said.

Prices per gallon at self-serve pumps were: regular unleaded, 103.06 cents; mid-grade unleaded, 114.49 cents; premium unleaded, 122.67 cents; leaded, 105.99 cents.
