Greg Stubblefield hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to put Rockbridge County (2-1) ahead for good.
Jimmy Emore went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, and four others had two hits each for the Wildcats. The Fighting Blues (0-3) took a 7-1 lead after three innings by scoring five unearned runs.
In other baseball:
Floyd County (3-0) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a tie and swamp Galax 12-2 in a game that did not count in the Mountain Empire District standings.
Until the sixth, the game was a pitcher's duel between the Maroon Tide's Bobby Melton and the Buffaloes' Brian Harman, who left in the fourth inning with two outs after hitting three-straight batters. Melton was chased in the sixth, to be succeeded by Steve Ford and Jason Wade.
\ SOFTBALL: Carlisle scored six runs in the seventh inning for a 9-8 victory over Roanoke Catholic in a Blue Ridge Conference softball game at River's Edge Sports Complex. Liz Landry went 4-for-4 with one RBI for Roanoke Catholic (0-3, 0-3).
James River and host Alleghany combined for 26 hits before James River emerged with a 17-15 victory. Courtney Hash had three hits, including two doubles and a triple, and five RBi for the Knights. Tracy Cummings went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Mindy Hemp drove in three runs for the Mountaineers (0-2).
Riverheads overcame four errors to beat host Bath County 9-5.
Kelly Gravely was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI to lead Laurel Park (4-0) to a 5-3 victory over Dan River in Martinsville.
\ SOCCER: George Harris made 10 saves, and Todd Johnson and Wes Lewis scored two goals each as guest Martinsville whipped Franklin County 4-0. The Bulldogs are 2-0; Franklin County is 2-2.
