Nervo ran the mile in 5 minutes, 32.3 seconds and the 3,200 (two miles) in 12 minutes even.
Nikki Holloway of Radford was another big winner in the girls' competition; she won the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 27.5 seconds and ran the anchor leg on the winning 400-meter relay team.
The Highlanders won the meet with 93.5 points, Glenvar and William Byrd tied at 47 and Carroll County finished with 38.5 points.
Eric Barton won three events in the boys' competition. The Radford student won the triple jump (39-1 1/2), the long jump (19-6 1/2) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.3 seconds).
Glenvar won the boys' meet with 92 points. Radford was second at 82, Carroll County was third at 36 and William Byrd finished fourth at 22.
In other track and field:
Kathy Flanagan won the long jump, triple jump and 100-yard hurdles and was on the victorious 440 relay as Heritage won a three-team meet at William Fleming. Bethany Eigle won the mile and two-mile for second-place Christiansburg. Fleming was third.
Andra Beasley won the 100 yards and the triple jump and anchored the 440 relay as Christiansburg edged second-place William Fleming 62-52. For the Colonels, Dominick Millner won the long jump and the 800 and was on the winning mile relay. Heritage came in third place with 51 points.
\ BASEBALL: Floyd County scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a tie and swamp Galax 12-2 in a game that did not count in the Mountain Empire District standings. Until the sixth, the game was a pitchers' duel between the Maroon Tide's Bobby Melton and the Buffaloes' Brian Harman, who left in the fourth inning with two outs after hitting three straight batters. Melton was chased in the sixth, to be succeeded by Steve Ford and Jason Wade. Peter Bucklin, Josh Howery, Phillip Marshall and Monte Moran had two hits each and combined for six RBI for Floyd County (3-0). Robert Favre got the win in relief.
Narrows used a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Auburn at Riner. The Eagles (0-3) took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning when Danny Dickerson smashed a two-run home run. The Green Wave retaliated in the seventh; Brett Mosley had a run-scoring single, Brandon Holly had two RBI and Narrows (2-1) scored its final run on an error. The Green Wave turned a double play to end the game.
At Danville, Franklin County and GW-Danville split a doubleheader.
GW-Danville (4-2) won the first game 2-1, scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth to overcome a 1-0 deficit. Chad Foutz and Isaac Medeiros had the Eagles' only hits. Franklin County won the second game 7-4. Fouts came on in relief for the victory, and he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Starter Clay Bailey and Medeiros, the middle reliever, helped pitch a two-hitter.
Justin Sigmon had a double and scored a run on an error in the second inning. The Eagles (2-2) had eight hits. GW-Danville is 4-2.
\ SOCCER: George Harris made 10 saves and Todd Johnson and Wes Lewis scored two goals each as Martinsville whipped host Franklin County 4-0. The Bulldogs are 2-0; Franklin County is 2-2.
Jim Robinson scored two goals and Ed Culicerto had two assists as Blacksburg beat host Northside 4-1 in a non-district match. Ryan Sboray scored the Vikings' goal.
\ SOFTBALL: Buckingham's Mandy Wickizer outdueled April Mullins, pitching a two-hitter and striking out five as the Knights beat host Staunton River 6-1. Mullins pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10.
Jefferson Forest took a 10-7 victory over host Liberty in a Seminole District game. Lisa Carr had four hits - all bunts - for Liberty (1-2 overall, 1-2 district).
\ TENNIS: Defending Group A champion Glenvar continued its dominance by winning its third match this year, this time 9-0 over visiting Auburn.
