In the Roanoke Valley, elections will be held in seven localities - city councils in Roanoke and Salem, and town councils in Vinton, Fincastle, Troutville, Buchanan and New Castle.
Roanoke has seven candidates seeking four vacancies on council; Salem has three candidates for two seats; and Vinton has five candidates for two available seats.
Registrar's offices in Roanoke, Salem and Roanoke County are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Friday, Saturday and Monday. The offices normally are closed on Saturday.
Main offices in Botetourt and Craig counties will be open the same days, but they will open at 9 a.m.
Roanoke County also has a special registration point at William Byrd High School in Vinton today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Roanoke has a special registration point at the Division of Motor Vehicles office at Crossroads Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday. In addition to its main office being open Saturday,, the Roanoke registrar's office also will have five outside registration points: main public library in downtown Roanoke and at the Raleigh Court, Jackson Park, Melrose and Williamson Road branch libraries. Hours at all of these are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Under Virginia's statewide voter registration policy, voters can register in any locality even if they don't live there.
