8 SWIM TEAM MEMBERS GOING TO NATIONAL MEET

Eight members of the Southwest Aquatic Team will compete in the National YMCA Shortcourse Swimming Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., April 12-15.

Four boys and five girls make up the SWAT contingent. Rickie Jennings of Pearisburg will swim in the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medleys and the 200 backstroke, Graham Gravley of Hillsville will compete in the 500 and 1,650 freestyles, and the 200 backstroke, Mark Stone of Wytheville will swim the 50, 100 and 500 freestyles, and Whit Hughston of Blacksburg will be in the 200 and 400 individual medleys and the the 200 backstroke.

All four boys will swim on the 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams.

In the girls' events, Sarah Clements of Blacksburg will swim the 50, 500 and 1,650 freestyles and will be on relay teams in the 200 medley, 400 medley and 800 freestyle, Jackie McLaughlin of Blacksburg will swim the 50 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and all three relays, Betsy Garratt of Radford will swim the 100 breast stroke and the 200 and 400 medley relays, Tina Tynan of Radford will swim on all three relay teams, and Jamie Rogers of Pearisburg will swim the 800 freestyle relay.
