SALEM FARMERS' MARKET OPENS FOR THE SEASON

The Salem Farmers' Market will open a new season Friday so farmers from throughout southwest Virginia can offer their produce for sale.

The market will be open until the end of December from 7 a.m. until dark, Monday through Saturday.

In the early weeks, before locally-grown produce comes in, the main items at the market will be bedding plants of vegetables and flowers along with baked goods.

Several special events are planned at the market during the year. The first will be an art show on May 1 from noon to 5 p.m.

The market, at Main and Broad streets in downtown Salem, is closed January through March. It is owned and operated by the City of Salem.
