GALAX ROUTS ROCKY GAP

Superior depth by Galax and the overall excellence of Tammy Cox and Jaclyn Dickens boosted the Maroon Tide to a 51-34 victory over Rocky Gap in the Lady Cavalier Tip-off at Carroll County High School.

Cox scored 14 points and Dickens 13 for Galax (2-0 overall, 0-0 in the Mountain Empire District). Rocky Gap was led by Amanda Clark, who scored 10 points.

Alleghany 68, James River 39: Natasha Chapman scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, as the Mountaineers downed the Knights in a non-district contest at Buchanan.

The teams stayed close through the first half but Chapman sank three 3-pointers in the third quarter for Alleghany (1-0).

Angie Johnson scored 23 points to anchor James River (0-1).
