The county's Board of Supervisors voted last month to pay the Virginia Department of Transportation $120,000 to build the access road to connect the highway with the parcel of land farthest from it in the two-parcel park.
But the state decided to award the county $175,000 in industrial access funds. Officials with the county and the Transportation Department said the extra allocation will still go toward building the road.
Regulations applied to the funds stipulate that the county must have a company move onto the land served by the road in three years, or reimburse the state for a portion of the funds.
H.P. Hydraulics holds an option on the land, and South Star Corp., a Salem electrical assemblies manufacturer plans to move onto the other parcel this winter. The six-acre park sits off U.S. 460 near the intersection of Virginia 803.
