BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS ANNOUNCED FOR BLACKSBURG

The Grove, home of Virginia Tech President Paul Torgersen and his wife, Dot, was one of the winners of the 1994 Blacksburg Civic Beautification Awards. Other winning entries include an entire street in the Woodbine subdivision and a modest home surrounded by summer flowers in Airport Acres.

The town of Blacksburg and the Townscape Committee are co-sponsors of the event, which is in its 12th year. Beth Fontaine and Mac Favrao, co-chairwomen, said they received 39 applications. The judges made their selection from 11 categories, including businesses and homeowners who have contributed to making Blacksburg a more beautiful place to live.

An awards ceremony is planned for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers in the Blacksburg Municipal Building.

A slide presentation showing all the award winners is planned, and the public is welcome.
