Warrants were served Friday morning at the Ramada Inn where the five defendants are staying, and they are scheduled for a hearing Sept. 13 in Shenandoah County General District Court, said Woodstock town police Sgt. J.H. Coffelt.
But as night fell Friday on the fairgrounds, girlie show manager Gary W. Housel barked through a microphone, ``Show time! Show time!'' He declined to comment on the warrants.
Housel, 43, of Glenville, Pa., was charged with procuring women to expose themselves indecently, according to the warrant. His wife, Erlinda Guerrero-Housel, 42, was charged with indecent exposure, as were Shannon Ogozaly, 22, of Millersville, Md., and Yolonda Grice, 21, and Deanna M. Williams, 22, both of Baltimore, according to court records.
On the strip show's first night at the fair, Aug. 29, Housel said the dancers would be wearing G-strings and flesh-colored Band-Aids to cover their nipples. But according to the warrants, the dancers exposed their genitals to the audience during Thursday night's performance.
All of the charges are misdemeanors punishable by a maximum sentence of a year in jail and a $2,500 fine, Coffelt said.
Housel contacted the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union on Friday afternoon, Executive Director Kent Willis said.
Willis said he will meet with the state ACLU's board to determine whether the organization will represent Housel, who has charged the Shenandoah Coalition Against Pornography, instigator of the charges, with censorship.
