MAN FALLS INTO LAKE, DROWNS

A 42-year-old man fell off the bank and drowned in Philpott Lake on Sunday afternoon at the Salthouse Branch Recreation Area in Franklin County - the same area where another drowning occurred July 3.

The man, whose name was not available, was reported missing in the lake around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Karl Martin of the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

The man's body was recovered about two hours later, Martin said.

In the previous drowning, Jeffrey C. Sink, 32, of Rocky Mount drowned July 3, after swimming out past the buoys that mark the swimming area, said Lt. Charles Wagner of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Sink's friends noticed he was missing after about five minutes and found him underwater. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
