TRACKING DOWN MISSING BONDS
Q: My daughter, who is now 57, received monthly Savings Bonds from her
father during the last two years of World War II. He had money taken from his
Army pay while he was overseas, and the bonds were sent directly to her. She
was living in foster care at the time and, because she was such a little girl,
didn't take care of the bonds. Now we are wondering if it is possible to
replace these bonds because she has no idea what happened to them. I can get
her father's Social Security number if that would help. We were thinking of
applying to the Army for information.
A: U.S. Savings Bonds are registered to the owner, so it is usually
possible to replace bonds that are lost if you can provide enough
information.
Memo: NOTE: Please see microfilm for text.
