ROANOKE ROUTS E&H IN SOCCER

Sophomore midfielder Todd Hallauer scored four goals and set up one as Roanoke College routed Emory & Henry 11-0 on Tuesday afternoon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's soccer opener for both teams.

Rich Aftoora added two goals and Rick Keeley made three saves en route to the shutout for the Maroons (2-1). The Wasps (0-1) were outshot 46-5.

In other sports in the region:

Virginia Tech won its third consecutive women's soccer match, overpowering Liberty 4-0 in Blacksburg. The Hokies outshot the Flames 36-3 and got goals from Courtney Sims, Kim Campbell, Michelle Hager and Sarah Schwark. Jaime Kwiatkowski had two assists for Tech (3-0). Liberty is 0-2.

Mindy Ballinger, a junior guard, has left the Radford University women's basketball team and transferred to the University of Cincinnati to attend nursing school.

Ballinger, who averaged 9.3 points and a team-high 4.8 assists per game, applied to but was not accepted into Radford's nursing program.
