LIQUOR VOTE TO TAKE PLACE IN BOTETOURT

Voters in the Amsterdam District of Botetourt County will get their chance to vote in November on whether liquor by the drink should be allowed in restaurants.

Voter Registrar Leslie Kinion on Tuesday certified that a sufficient number of registered voters had signed the petition in support of the vote.

To get the measure on the ballot, signatures of 312 of the district's 3,113 voters were needed. Circuit Judge George E. Honts III is expected to sign an order authorizing the vote this week.

The Amsterdam District, which surrounds the U.S. 220 corridor around Daleville, would be the first magisterial district in Botetourt County to permit mixed drinks.

Some county officials have said that liquor by the drink would bolster the development of hotels and restaurants near the Troutville exit of Interstate 81.
