LORD BOTETOURT RUN BURIES BLACKSBURG

Lord Botetourt scored 30 straight points in the first half on the way to blasting Blacksburg 68-47.

After trailing 10-6 early in the game, the Cavaliers scored the last 13 points of the first period and the first 17 points of the second to put the game away.

Sara Moore scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the first half to lead Lord Botetourt (3-1), which beat Blacksburg 67-37 a week ago in the opening round of the Floyd County Tip-Off Tournament. Sarah Hicks had 14 points, 10 in the first half.

Lisa Price and April Rogers scored 14 points each for Blacksburg (1-3), the 1993 Group AA champion.

Carroll County 49

Galax 45

HILLSVILLE - Jennifer Watkins scored six of her nine points during a decisive 6-0 run that helped Carroll County hand Galax its first loss in a non-district matchup.

Watkins' flurry gave Carroll County (3-1) an eight-point lead. Dineen Jessup added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Tammy Cox led Galax (3-1) with a game-high 21 points.

Narrows 58

Giles 47

NARROWS - The Green Wave jumped on the Spartans with fullcourt pressure and led by 28 points late in the third quarter before cruising home with a non-district win. Suzanne Webb scored 26 points, 16 of them in the first half, to lead Narrows (1-1). Becky Turner had five steals.

Heather Wilburn led (0-1) Giles with 16 points.

Radford 49

Bland 18

RADFORD-- Radford used an intense man-to-man defense to create many transition baskets as the Bobcats bombed Bland for the non-district victory.

Crystal Hubbard led the Bobcats with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Nine of 10 players scored for Radford (1-1). Bland is 0-2.

Rocky Gap 53

Shawsville 49

ROCKY GAP - Rocky Gap used a balanced scoring attack and a tough match-up zone defense to defeat Shawsville in a non-district game. The Eagles got 13 points a piece from Nancy Tupper, Amanda Sarver, and Amanda Clark. Clark also added 11 rebounds and five steals. Shawsville was led by Alexander with 16 points.
