NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING TONIGHT ON SHOPPING CENTER PROJECT

The proposed Collegiate Square shopping center project will be the topic of a neighborhood meeting tonight at 7:30 in the Blacksburg Police Department training room.

The town's Planning Commission was expected to set a public hearing date for the project at its meeting Tuesday night.

Two years ago, Blacksburg developer Ray Chisholm won approval from Town Council to have the triangular-shaped piece of property at Prices Fork Road and Turner Street rezoned so he could build a complex of retail and commercial businesses there.

Brantner Limited Partnership, a group of Charlottesville investors, took over the project from Chisholm last fall. Donald Wagner, president of Great Eastern Management Co., which is a general partner in the project, will attend tonight's meeting to answer questions.

The planning staff has said it thinks the changes in development plans for the shopping center are positive, but decided a public hearing should be set nonetheless. "All of our changes are very minor," said Richard Reiss, legal counsel for the partnership.
