He was named fire inspector in 1985, promoted to fire prevention officer in 1991, and now is bringing all his training and experience together in the position created this year.
Hutchinson, 41, has worked for the town since May 20, 1978. He is also a volunteer firefighter.
In his new job, he will be responsible for enforcing the Virginia Fire Prevention Code, Uniform Statewide Building Code, and town fire regulations and ordinances. He will also handle the town's public education fire programs, in such areas as schools, civic organizations, industries, health care facilities and nursing homes.
He is a graduate of the Virginia Building Code Academy and has completed other training, including fire inspector, officer and instructor courses. One of his hobbies is collecting badges, toys, books and patches related to firefighting.
