Commander Ed Hogston said Marie Dalton and her husband were walking at the Diversified Apparel parking lot in the east section of town when she felt a sharp pain in her neck.
The woman had been shot by a high-powered BB gun, Hogston said. She was taken to Pulaski Community Hospital, the pellet was removed, and she was later released.
Hogston said the incident illustrates the danger of firing any weapon in public areas.
"This is a malicious wounding that we're dealing with here," he said. An adult convicted of malicious wounding faces a sentence of five to 20 years in prison.
Anyone with information that could help the Pulaski police in its investigation may call 980-1220.
