AMERICA ONLINE TO BECOME 4 UNITS

America Online, the computer service, said it is dividing its operations into four units to better manage its rapid growth.

America Online is the country's third-largest on-line service provider. Since January, its subscriber base has risen from 500,000 to more than 1 million. The service provides electronic mail, news and entertainment.

Spokeswoman Pam McGraw said the formation of the new divisions - AOL Services Co., Internet Services Co., AOL International and AOL Technologies - will not cost America Online any money, because the new units will employ existing staff.
