COVINGTON PLANT TO ADD JOBS, SPACE

Automotive Industries Inc., an automotive parts maker, on Friday announced a $3.3 million expansion of its Covington plant, where it makes door panels for American automakers. The project is expected to add 28 jobs to the work force of 313.

Automotive Industries, based in Troy, Mich., said it has received a $100,000 grant from Virginia to help pay for the expansion. The company said it would invest $3.2 million of its own money in the project, which brings its total investment in Covington to $9.8 million since 1989. The expansion is needed to handle additional production of door panels for the Ford Explorer.

The company had 105 employees in Covington in 1989. Its two Covington plants have grown from 87,500 square feet to 145,000 square feet.
