POINTS RACES FINISH UP AT NRVS

For drivers chasing the Winston Racing Series Mid-Atlantic points championship, New River Valley Speedway will be the place to be Sunday afternoon.

On the last day for the Mid-Atlantic points, Promoter Ronnie Snoddy has scheduled two Late Model Stock Car races and both will count in the WRS final tally.

The twin 75-lap races will highlight the RGM Erectors 250 event. Also on the card are a 35-lap Limited race plus 25 laps for the Mod Mini, Mini and Pure Stock drivers.

Special guest will be Rick Mast, a Rockbridge Baths native, won the pole for the first Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis last month. He will be meeting fans and signing autographs in a two-hour pre-race appearace.

Races are being run Sunday afternoon following the Winston Cup night race at Richmond on Saturday. Gates open at 10 a.m., with practice at noon. Qualifying runs are at 1:30 with the first green flag at 3 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

In Buies Creek, N.C., Kenley Osborne scored two goals as the Virginia Tech women's soccer team improved to 4-0 with a 3-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock at the Campbell BB&T Kickoff Classic. The Hokies, who tied a team record for consecutive victories with their third straight shutout, play Appalachian State today at 5 p.m.

Andy Smith scored in the 78th minute to lift Roanoke College (3-1) to a 2-1 men's soccer win over Oswego State at the Pizza Hut-Blue Jay Classic at Elizabethtown, Pa. The Maroons play Elizabethtown, a 1-0 loser Greensboro, today at 2 p.m. Keith Arnott scored Roanoke's other goal.
