GILES KEEPS ON ROLLING IN THREE RIVERS DISTRICT

PEARISBURG - Raypheal Milton had another outstanding performance as Giles held off Floyd County 32-21 on Friday night in the first football game played in the Three Rivers District.

Milton, who had three touchdowns in a 30-14 victory over Blacksburg on Sept.2, rushed for three touchdowns, threw for one and accounted for 252 yards of total offense.

Giles (2-0) needed Milton's big night. Floyd County quarterback Duane Hale completed 13 of 21 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns, including a 22-yarder to Jason Pratt that pulled Floyd County (1-1) to 24-21 with 3 minutes, 21 seconds remaining.

On the Spartans' next possession, Milton, who passed for 124 yards, hit Matt Tawney out of the backfield with a short pass on third down that Tawney took 57 yards into the end zone.

The Buffaloes took a 7-0 lead on Jamie Warren's 23-yard run in the first quarter. Milton, who rushed for 127 of his 128 yards in the first half before sitting out most of the last two quarters with leg cramps, scored three touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 33, 17 and 13 yards.

Radford 21

RADFORD -Jason McCoy kicked a 22-yard field goal with 1:11 to play to lift the Vikings to a non-district victory over the Bobcats.

Radford (1-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter when quarterback Foster Ridpath found Derrick Chapman on a 22-yard pass.

Powell Valley (1-1) then jumped ahead 21-7 on three consecutive touchdowns by running back Thomas Jones. The junior finished with 107 yards on 22 carries and scored on runs of 14, 2 and 3 yards.

Radford (1-1) was held scoreless in the second and third quarters, but came alive in the fourth, reeling off 14 straight points.

Tremond Hale caught an 8-yard Foster Ridpath pass for a touchdown. Marlon Wesley then tied the score at 21-21 on a 1-yard TD run, but the Bobcats ran out of time.

Richlands 28

Christiansburg 13

CHRISTIANSBURG - Andra Beasly rushed for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Blue Deomns (0-2) fell to the Tornadoes (2-0).

Jeremy McCommons rushed for 141 yards and scored two touchdowns for Richlands.

Craig County 53

Auburn 33

RINER - Zachary Peters scored three touchdowns and Robbie Huffman ran for three and passed for another as the Rockets outlasted the Eagles in a wild non-district game.

Craig County (1-1) rallied from a 7-0 first quarter deficit with three touchdowns to take the lead for good.

Peters scored on a 81-yard kickoff return to begin the onslaught. Huffman pulled the Rockets ahead with a 61-yard run and then Huffman hit Peters with a 5-yard scoring pass to give the Rockets the lead for good.

But Auburn hung in, closing to 35-33 midway through the third quarter on a pair of scoring runs by Bobby Bonds and two scoring passes by Jeremy Akers.

Craig County then pulled away, scoring on a Chris Blankenship interception return to close out the third quarter and short runs by Huffman and Peters in the fourth.

Roanoke Catholic 42

Shawsville 6

SHAWSVILLE - P.J. Moyer rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns to power the Celtics to a non-district victory over the Shawnees.

Moyer had touchdown runs of 1, 26 and 66 yards as Catholic improved its record to 3-0. It was Shawsville's opener.

MAX MEADOWS - Adam Morgan completed 12 of 15 passes, two for touchdowns to Gary Arnold, as the Pioneers rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat the Maroon Tide in the Mountain Empire District.

Fort Chiswell (1-1 overall, 1-0 district) took the lead for good on a two-point conversion pass from Michael White to Jody Burnett following a 1-yard touchdown run by Kevin King in the third quarter.

Randy Ashworth scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for Galax (0-2, 0-2).

Narrows 33

NARROWS - The Green Wave had three touchdowns of 68 yards or longer in winning a one-sided game.

Narrows quarterback Brian Pruett was 4-of-8 passing for 128 yards, including a 72-yard scoring strike to Brandon Hollie. Gary Lowery had 94 yards rushing on 12 carries, including an 81-yard touchdown, and Norman Perkins gained 77 yards on four carries, including a 68-yard scoring burst.

Narrows (1-1) rushed for 249 yards, and the Green Wave defense held Garden (1-1) to 98 yards of total offense. Narrows also intercepted three passes.

HILLSVILLE - It seemed every time Karim Thompson touched the ball, he scored a touchdown for the Vikings. Thompson, who carried the ball just five times, scored three touchdowns and rushed for 177 yards. Included in that total were scoring runs of 54 and 84 yards.

Northside (1-1), which led 48-0 after three quarters, scored five touchdowns on plays of 54 yards or longer. Mike Dillon and Gary Henderson each had touchdowns of 55 yards and Kirk Likens scored on a 54-yard run. Booth, who was 6-for-7 on extra-point kicks, scored a defensive touchdown after recovering a fumble and running eight yards.

Martinsville 8

After losing 14 games in a row, the Knights have reversed their fortunes.

Cave Spring, the fifth-ranked team in Timesland, rolled past the Bulldogs as quarterback Jeff Lang completed six of seven passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

The Knights are 2-0; Friday's loss was the opener for Martinsville.

Cave Spring's Billy Frantz thwarted two Bulldogs drives with interceptions, returning them for 29 and 28 yards, respectively.

Franklin County 21

ROCKY MOUNT - The Eagles (1-1) tormed back from a 20-7 deficit with 14 fourth-quarter points to down the Lancers (0-1) in a non-district game.

John Muse scored on a 1-yard run with 24 seconds remaining to tie the score 20-20, and Dan Berger kicked the deciding extra point.

The Franklin County drive was 10 plays, all on the ground, and covered 48 yards.

Laurel Park's Solomon Paddyfote returned the ensuing kickoff 49 yards to the Franklin County 36 before being driven out of bounds. On the next play, Darrell Wilson's pass to Paddyfote carried to the Eagles' 12. Paddyfote was injured on the play and had to be carried from the field on a stretcher.

With 5 seconds remaining, Laurel Park's Derrick Manns was wide right on a 30-yard field-goal attempt.

Franklin County (1-1) rushed for 266 yards, led by Tony Muse's 153 yards on 23 attempts. John Muse added 90 yards on 12 carries.

Paddyfote rushed for 71 yards for the Lancers (0-1).
