GASOLINE SPILL CLEANED UP

A gasoline spill that poured out between 30 and 50 gallons at a gas station in Roanoke Saturday was quickly cleared by the Roanoke HazMat team.

Fire Captain John Sweeney said a truck from Green Transport Company spilled the gasoline as it filled a tank at a Uni-Mart on the corner of Main Street and Wasena Avenue.

Sweeney said most of the gas, which was spilled about 10:30 a.m., was confined to the street gutters.

The HazMat team dammed up the storm drains and laid down special sheets of material that soaked up the petroleum.

Sweeney said most spills they clean up are 5 to 10 gallons and they usually involve vehicle accidents.
