BASSETT TOPS WILLIAM BYRD

Kim Hairston scored 28 points and Bassett survived a fourth-quarter scare to beat William Byrd 46-43 in a non-district girls' basketball game Saturday night.

Bassett (3-0) led 38-29 after three quarters, but Byrd (2-2) rallied to take the lead midway through the period. The Bengals increased their full-court pressure, forcing the Terriers into several turnovers that resulted in easy baskets.
