Talbot was killed Thursday in the crash of USAir flight 427 outside Pittsburgh. He was returning home to Blacksburg from a Chicago meeting at the headquarters of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.
Peter Eyre, who succeeded Talbot as dean of the vet school, said that the school, working with the Talbot family, hopes to endow a scholarship to support students at the vet school.
"We haven't truly worked out specific details of this," Eyre said Monday from his office. "But we've already had quite a number of donations. There were two envelopes pushed under my door this morning."
Donations to the Richard B. Talbot Memorial Scholarship fund can be sent to the Dean's Office, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Blacksburg, Va. 24061-0442.
