Mike Warner's home, a manufactured log structure, was already a smoldering ruin when firefighters from Pearisburg, Poplar Hill and Eggleston arrived at the scene on Virginia 659 just before 10 a.m.
There were no injuries. Warner, who was not home when the fire started, lost all his possessions, said Darrell Scott of the Pearisburg Fire Department.
A preliminary investigation gave no indication that the fire was of suspicious origin, he said.
A relative who lives nearby spotted the house in flames and called for help, Scott said.
