Fast to speak

BLACKSBURG - Steve Fast, Republican candidate for the 9th District, will speak tonight at 7 at the United We Stand America meeting in the meeting room of the Blacksburg Police Department.

Benefit dinner

BARREN SPRINGS - A benefit dinner for Curt Crawford of Barren Springs will be held Saturday, 3-6 p.m. at the Barren Springs Fire Station in Patterson.

The dinner will include spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert.

White elephants

CHRISTIANSBURG - Montgomery Museum, 300 Pepper St., is the site of a white elephant sale Saturday during the Wilderness Trail Festival in downtown Christiansburg. It runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Museum volunteers will sell used household items, books, furniture, a computer and other donated items to raise money for the museum. In addition, homemade Brunswick stew and jams will be available.

Library friends

CHRISTIANSBURG - The newly merged Montgomery County Bookmobile Chapter of Friends of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library will hold an organizational meeting tonight at 7 at the library headquarters on Sheltman Street.

The Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Montgomery County chapters merged to form one Montgomery County chapter as of Sept. 1.

Satellite meeting

BLACKSBURG - The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, the Kaiser Family Foundation and other local co-sponsors will provide access to "Citizen's Voice for Citizen's Choice: A National Satellite Town Meeting on Health Care Reform" on Friday, 2-4 p.m. in the Brush Mountain Room of Squires Student Center.

Those attending may ask questions and voice opinions using a special 800 number. The moderator will be Carole Simpson of ABC News.

Admission is first-come, first-served.

United Way kickoff

PULASKI - Pulaski County United Way will kick off its 1994 fund-raising campaign Thursday, noon-1:30 p.m., with a picnic at Jackson Park.

Featured speaker is Jerry White. A boxed lunch is available compliments of Bill and Eleanor Moore.

The event is sponsored primarily by Bell Atlantic and the Pulaski County United Way Board of Directors.

To reserve a lunch, call 980-2537 by today. A $2 donation per person is requested to cover expenses.

Wilder to visit

CHRISTIANSBURG - U.S. Senate candidate and former Gov. Douglas Wilder discusses issues and answers questions Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church on High Street.
