CRAIG COUNTY GETS NEW ADMINISTRATOR

The city manager of Clifton Forge has accepted the position of administrator of Craig County.

Zane M. Jones, chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Craig, said Stephen A. Carter has accepted an offer and is to begin work Sept. 26.

"We had more recommendations for Mr. Carter than for anyone else," Jones said. "He scored high in our search. He has more than seven years' experience in local government and has knowledge of finances and grant-writing."

Carter will succeed Richard Flora, who has resigned to become city manager of Buena Vista.

Carter could not be reached Tuesday night. He became city manager of Clifton Forge in June 1989 after serving as acting manager for nine months.

Carter is a native of Clifton Forge and a graduate of Clifton Forge High School and Emory & Henry College.
