BLACKSBURG TOWN ATTORNEY RESIGNATION ACCEPTED|

Town Council formally accepted Town Attorney Richard Kaufman's resignation at its Tuesday meeting and authorized the town manager to contract with an interim attorney.

Kaufman, who has accepted a position as town attorney with Herndon, requested that the resignation go into effect Sept. 30. Council voted to accept it as part of its consent agenda.

"I deem it a high honor and privilege to have served the Blacksburg Town Council as the town attorney since March 1983," Kaufman wrote in his resignation letter.

James Hutton, a partner with the Blacksburg law firm of Gilmer, Sadler, Ingram, Sutherland and Hutton, will serve as interim town attorney until a new one can be hired.

The town expects to hire an attorney in December or January.
