FAST, BOUCHER ANNOUNCE CAMPAIGN STOPS

Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, and his Republican challenger, Steve Fast of Tazewell, will make separate campaign appearances in the New River Valley beginning tonight in Blacksburg with a Fast reception featuring former GOP senatorial aspirant Jim Miller.

That fund-raising event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Custom Catering Center, 902 Patrick Henry Drive. Miller, a former Reagan administration budget director, lost the Republican nomination battle to Oliver North in June.

Here's a schedule of other 9th District congressional race appearances in the New River Valley:

Friday

Fast: 7:45 to 9 a.m. fund-raising breakfast with Miller at the Renaissance Restaurant in Pulaski. For information, call Dot Sheffey, 674-6297.

Boucher: 6 to 8 p.m. reception at the Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd. Call 745-3574 for details.

Saturday

Fast: Will visit, in this order, the Pembroke Festival in Giles County, the Mount Tabor Fall Festival at the Slusser's Chapel picnic ground in Montgomery County, Christiansburg's Wilderness Trail Festival, the Legacy Quilt Show at the National Guard Armory in Christiansburg and the Dublin flea market. Exact times were unavailable.
