PEPPER SPRAYER GETS 4 YEARS IN PRISON

A Roanoke woman who sprayed two men, one of them a police officer, with a Mace-like pepper spray was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison.

Delores V. Harper, 28, originally had been charged with injuring four people in a cloud of noxious gas from her pepper-spray canister during a struggle at the Crossroads Mall Kroger store in March.

Authorities said Harper used the spray on a police officer and store employees as they tried to arrest her boyfriend for shoplifting.

Two charges against Harper were dropped, and she has been receiving treatment for a drug problem since her arrest, defense attorney Tom Wray said.
