BUFFALOES POUND BLUE DEVILS 112-39

All 13 players scored for Floyd County as it swamped Grayson County 112-39 in a non-district girls' basketball game Thursday.

Floyd County (7-0) bolted to a 35-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Buffaloes cruised to a 58-15 halftime lead.

Leigh-Ann Pursifull led the Buffaloes with 16 points, four steals and six assists. Julie Sowers and J.J. Sowers added 16 points each for the winners, who had six players reach double figures.

Grayson County (1-4) got eight points from Teri Sumner and seven from Tammie Hackler.

William Byrd 63

Blacksburg 46

BLACKSBURG - The Terriers' press wore down the Indians, as William Byrd (3-2) outscored Blacksburg 22-9 in the third quarter to win the non-district game. Cathy Smith led the Terriers with 17 points and Brandy Allen had 13.

April Rogers scored 11 for Blacksburg. (2-5)

Northside 57

Christiansburg 52

CHRISTIANSBURG- Northside jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and hit nine freethrows in the fourth to extinguish a late rally by the Demons.

Chrystal Moles led all scorers with 18 and Maureen Jackson had 12 to pace Christiansburg (1-3) in a non-district game.

The Vikings (2-3) erased a 36-36 third quarter tie, putting Christiansburg down by 12 with a minute and a half remaining in the game. Kim Farrell led Northside with 10 points

Giles 61

Rocky Gap 50

ROCKY GAP - Heather Wilburn went 3-for-4 and Giles was 7-for-11 from the foul line in the fourth quarter as the Spartans held off the Eagles in a non-district game.

Giles (3-2) was led by Kelly Williams with 13 points and Tamika Saunders added 10. Rocky Gap (1-5) was paced by Amanda Clark with 13. The teams combined for 46 fouls.

Fort Chiswell 50

FORT CHISWELL - Fort Chiswell's pressing defense stifled Radford and gave the Pionmeers their first victory in the non-district game.

Amber Gunter scored 15 points and Trish Stuart added 12 for Fort Chiswell (1-3).

Crystal Hubbard scored a game-high 20 points for the Bobcats.

GREENVILLE, W.Va. - Roseann Richardson sank a short jump shot with 11 seconds left as James Monroe beat Narrows in an interstate game.

Narrows missed two free throws with five seconds left to seal the win for the Mavericks (2-3). Narrows was led by Suzanne Webb with 21 points.

NEW CASTLE - Beth Burdett scored seven of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Shawnees over over the Rockets in a non-district game.

Chrissy Robertson led Craig County (0-3) with 18 points.

Staunton River 44

MONETA- Courney Mitchell scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had five steals to lead the Golden Eagles over the Minutemen. Deena Mitchell had 11 points and Beth Davis had 10 to help pace Staunton River.

Felicia Miller led all scorers with 14 for Liberty.

Carroll County 73

Auburn 66

HILLSVILLE - Bethany Hill sank two free throws with five seconds left as the Cavaliers held off a late rally by the Eagles in a non-district game.

Auburn (3-2) had a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter but Sarah Puckett scored 14 points in the second and third quarters as Carroll County (6-2) went on a 46-29 run. Sherry Smith scored eight points in the fourth quarter to spark a comeback for the Eagles, who cut the Cavaliers' lead to five with 15 seconds left. Hill then sealed the win for Carroll County.

Puckett led the Cavaliers with 18 points. Hill had 15 and Jennifer Watkins chipped in 12.

Sherry Smith scored 23 points for Auburn and Lyons added 18.
