JOYCE AND MORGAN ALLEN

If it wasn't love at first sight, it was close. Morgan Allen was working at a textiles plant in Hurt when his wife-to-be walked in the door.

Actually, he wasn't looking. But the women he worked with made sure he noticed.

``It was so funny,'' recalled Joyce Allen. ``They said, `Morgan!'''

He might consider giving them the anniversary present.

The Allens are one of five couples married on Sept. 14, 1974, who have lasted 20 years.

``We're happily married, and we wouldn't change a thing,'' Morgan Allen said.

She was a graduate of Staunton River High School, he, of Gretna High School and Phillips Business College in Lynchburg. They dated for more than a year before they married, in Palestine Baptist Church in Huddleston.

The couple, who live in Gretna, have no children. ``That was our decision from the beginning,'' Joyce Allen said.

Virginia Tech fans, they can frequently be seen at Hokie football games.

Their life together has not been void of trouble. In 1991, at age 45, Morgan Allen underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

But they have no complaints.

``We've had our ups and downs,'' Joyce Allen said, citing her husband's surgery, ``but we've really been blessed.''

Joyce Allen currently works as an export customer service representative for Burlington Industries. Morgan Allen is an assistant to the national sales manager for Lane Furniture.

The Allens were planning a vacation around their anniversary and Joyce Allen's 40th birthday - which also comes this month.

``We're going to Myrtle Beach,'' said Morgan Allen. ``We're going to celebrate.''
