WEATHER WASHES OUT LOCAL TRACKS

The races were rained out Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway, ending a streak of 27 events this season without a cancellation.

Drivers who brought their cars into the infield added 30 bonus points to their season totals.

Several events will highlight next week's schedule at the Callaway track, including an appearance by Winston Cup star Rick Mast and a Winston Cup crew chiefs race.

Rain also caused the cancellation of the double-points Heritage Buick/Olds/Pontiac/GMC 200 at New River Valley Speedway.

It is the second regular racing date lost to the weather this season at the Radford track. The race will not be rescheduled.

Davis Phillips came out a winner because of the rain, though. The cancellation allowed the Plum Creek driver to clinch the points championship in the Pure Stock division.

The final regular-season race at the track will be Oct.1, the rain makeup of the race postponed May 7. Because of the rainout, that race will carry double points.
