IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET SOME RSVP APPLE BUTTER|

The bad news is that the soggy weather during the Wilderness Road Festival last Saturday really cut into apple butter sales by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County. The good news is there's still lots left for those who stayed home.

"We only sold about half of it," said RSVP's Jo Lambert, who reports that the volunteers stayed at the festival until about 1:30 p.m. before packing it in. Last week's APPLE BUTTER JAMBOREE produced 160 pints and 50 quarts of the spicy condiment, at least one-third more than last year's cookoff, Lambert said.

Lambert is confident the remaining jars will sell. Pints are $3, and quarts are $5. Call RSVP at 382-5775 or stop by the office in the Courthouse Annex.

Those attending the LEGACY QUILT SHOW indoors at the National Guard Armory may have fared better during the Wilderness Road Festival. More than 80 quilts and quilted entries were judged. Top winners in each category were:

Best of show: Grace Karnes

Hand-pieced patchwork: Lorraine Stepp

Machine-pieced patchwork: Judy Albert

Appliqued: Lorraine Stepp

Novelty: Judy Albert

Quilted items: Judy Albert

Sherry Kostric of the Christiansburg Senior Center has additional details - including names of runners-up - at 382-8173.
