"You could say [the house] was almost totally destroyed," District Fire Chief Garry Basham said.
The one-story house at 2130 Ridgefield St. N.E. was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 1 a.m. Monday, Basham said. It took them nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control.
Richard S. Brown, the owner and only resident of the house, was not at home at the time.
Basham said estimated damage to the house was about $55,000.
