OBSCENITY CHARGE DROPPED IN FAIR CASE

A prosecutor has dropped state obscenity charges against the manager of what was believed to be the last striptease show remaining on the Virginia county fair circuit, but the case still will go to court.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Albert T. Mitchell said he has elected not to prosecute two state charges filed against one of the dancers and the manager of the strip show at the Shenandoah County Fair.

The two charges served the same purpose as complaints filed by Patrick P. Butler, a Fort Valley resident, Mitchell said.

Mitchell said he decided to drop the state charges after meeting last week with Butler, who filed five indecent exposure complaints against the show featuring suggestive dances by nude or nearly nude women Sept. 1.
