EARNINGS

Heilig-Meyers Co., Richmond home furnishings retailer, reported net earnings of $14.8 million, or 30 cents per share, in its second quarter ended Aug. 31, compared with $11.4 million, or 23 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose to $223.4 million from year-earlier $171.6 million. For the first half, earnings were $33.1 million, or 66 cents per share, up from $24.9 million, or 52 cents. Sales were $446.5 million, up from $327.6 million.
