Such is the case right now in Montgomery County.
And that makes the person on the spot TIM COONEY, the athletic supervisor for the county's Parks and Recreation Department.
The fall recreation programs include tennis, volleyball, golf, basketball and weight training.

Tennis classes are for beginning and intermediate players and consist of six one-hour sessions.
The classes will be offered at the county's four high schools - Auburn, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Shawsville - on a Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday schedule beginning the first week of October.
Registration continues through Sept. 30. The cost is $15 for youths and $20 for adults. Each participant is expected to have a new can of balls and a racket.
Volleyball teams are forming in men's, women's, coed and mixed church leagues.
Games begin in early October and will be played on weekend afternoons at county schools - Auburn High, Shawsville High, Blacksburg Middle and Christiansburg Middle.
The cost is $75 per team. Players must be at least 16 in the church league and 18 in the other leagues. The registration deadline is Oct. 3.
Golf lessons are scheduled for both of the county's driving ranges: Cox's Driving Range in Blacksburg, and Grip-It & Rip-It in Christiansburg.
The courses will consist of six one-hour sessions offered on a Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday schedule beginning the first week of October.
Youth classes will be at 6 p.m. and cost $15. Adult classes will be at 7 p.m. and cost $20.
Participants will purchase range balls for each class at a discount.
Cox's Driving Range is on Prices Fork Road in Blacksburg. Grip-It & Rip-It is on Roanoke Street in Christiansburg.
Basketball activities won't start until late fall, but registration is under way for the county's youth programs.
Youths ages 6 to 8 (as of March 1, 1995) are eligible for the Pee-Wee Clinics, which will feature skill instruction and scrimmages.
Youths ages 9 to 14 (as of March 1, 1995) will play in one of three leagues: Junior (ages 9-10), Sandlot (ages 11-12) and Senior (ages 12-14; 12-year-olds must be in seventh grade). The leagues are in cooperation with the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation.
The clinics and games will be held at Christiansburg Middle School, Auburn High School and Shawsville High School. The cost is $15 per player. Registration ends Oct. 28.
Weight training is available for the beginner and the intermediate-level participant.
Classes will be held at The Weight Club at University Mall in Blacksburg on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for three weeks. They will include instruction in free weights, weight machines and aerobic training.
Training for youths will be at 4:30 p.m. and cost $15. Training for adults will be at 5:30 p.m. and cost $20.
Registration ends Oct. 7. Classes begin Oct. 10.
Another session will be held starting Nov. 14. Registration for that begins Oct. 24.
GOLF GATHERINGS: It's Senior Golf - NRV Style.
The New River Valley Senior Classic will be Oct. 15 at the Blacksburg Municipal Golf Course.
The two-man teams will consist of a regular senior (age 50 or older) and one super senior (age 60 or older). The tournament will use a captain's choice format.
Tee times are 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will use a shotgun start. The top three teams will receive trophies and prizes. Also, there will be longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin competitions for the seniors and super seniors.
The cost is $60 per team. Participation is limited to 40 teams.

SPORTS CLUBBING: The Blacksburg Sports Club holds luncheon meetings every Wednesday at noon at the Custom Catering Center on Patrick Henry Drive.
Each meeting features a speaker from the local sporting scene.
A hot buffet is available for $6.50. An optional all-you-care-to-eat garden salad is available for $5.
