Lectures at RU

RADFORD - Marieke Van Grotenhuis, a professor from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, will speak at Radford University Sept. 22 and 28.

The first lecture "The Future of South Africa: A Political Perspective" will be at 7 p.m. in the Commonwealth Room of Heth Hall.

The second lecture "The Role of the U.S. in the Post Cold War Era: A European Perspective" will be at 7 p.m. in Lounge A of Heth Hall.

Women's issues

BLACKSBURG - Virginia lawyer Sylvia Clute and Becky Cain, national president of the League of Women Voters, will speak Wednesday , Sept. 28 for "Mobilizing for Freedom, Choices and Civil Liberties," a day of free events sponsored by the Black Female Coalition, the Women's Center, WoManspace and other local groups.

Cain will speak on the importance of democratic participation at noon between Alumni Hall and Squires Student Center. The rain location is room 150 of Squires Student Center.

Clute will share her experiences working for women's issues and victims of child sexual abuse at 7:30 p.m. in room 150 of Squires Student Center.

A look at Wal-Mart

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Route 114 Citizen's Network will discuss the site plan for the new Wal-Mart development at its monthly meeting in the Belmont Community Center on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Artists' reception

PULASKI - Artists with work in the current exhibit at the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley will be introduced at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the center gallery at 21 W. Main St.

The exhibit is ``The Art of Glass: Stained Glass Works by New River Valley Artisans.'' It includes lamps, miniature houses and fused glass work. The artists involved got their start in this art form at the center under the tutelage of Edna Love of Pulaski.

The reception is hosted by the Round Dozen Club and the public is invited. The exhibit will continue through the rest of September. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays.
