ARBY'S TO ACQUIRE SEAFOOD CHAIN

Arby's Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, home of the roast beef sandwich, soon may be peddling fish and chips.

The company that owns Arby's - Triarc Cos. of New York - said Wednesday it plans to buy Long John Silver's Restaurants for $525 million in cash.

The move is expected to trigger menu changes at both chains. Customers soon may be able to walk into an Arby's restaurant and order from either restaurant's menu. Ditto for patrons of Long John Silver's.

The concept, known as dual branding, is being touted within the industry as a quick way to build sales cheaply.

Arby's, which has 2,700 restaurants, has experimented with the concept at 15 restaurants nationwide during the past year with four different partners, including Long John Silver's, which has 1,450 restaurants.
