When Sgt. Doug Tuck, a Wythe County investigator, stopped a pickup that was missing a tail light, he discovered a pound of marijuana under the dashboard and a bottle of assorted prescription drugs, according to Lt. Doug King of the Wythe County Sheriff's Office. The incident happened along Virginia 608.
Charlie James Smith, 38 of Route 3, Pulaski, and Thomas Edward Viar, Jr., 35 of Route 1, Draper, were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Smith also was charged with driving under the influence, refusal of a blood or breath test, and possession of a controlled substance.
The vehicle was seized. Both men have been released on bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 28.
