MAN SOUGHT IN CONNECTION WITH SLAYING

Roanoke police are looking for a man they nearly apprehended Wednesday night who is wanted for questioning in a Campbell County slaying.

Roanoke police confirmed Thursday that they chased a man in Northeast Roanoke believed to be Bruce Davis. The Campbell County Sheriff's Office wants to question Davis about the slaying of 28-year-old Vincent Slater.

Roanoke police could not verify that the man they chased was Davis, but Campbell County Sheriff Robert E. Maxey Jr. said all indications are that it was him.

The man believed to be Davis and another man jumped from the window of a house in the Forest Hill area and escaped, police said.

Maxey said his office has been in close contact with Roanoke police on the case since Tuesday, because they believe Davis is a Roanoke resident.

Slater's body was found Monday morning over an embankment in a Campbell County subdivision, according to Maxey. Slater may have been killed as early as Friday.

Maxey added that he is wanted on several warrants in Campbell County, as well as for a parole violation in New Jersey.
