EXPERTS SAY RUDDER DIDN'T CAUSE CRASH

Investigators looking into the crash of a USAir Boeing 737-300 near Pittsburgh this month have virtually ruled out a problem with the aircraft's rudder, safety officials said Friday.

``We found no evidence of any problems with the rudder, the actuator or the power control unit,'' Michael Benson, of the National Transportation Safety Board, said of the movable panel in the tail section or its controls.

On Sept. 8, Flight 427 went into a nose dive near Pittsburgh. The crash killed 132 people, including three from Western Virginia.
